Since carbon C and oxygen O have different electronegativities, electrons aren't shared equally between them. It consists of one Sulfur atom surrounded by 3 Oxygen atoms symmetrically. Much like H2O, sulfur is found in the middle of the molecule, with bent bonds connecting the sulfur to the oxygen. The Oxygen gas molecule O2 is an example of a nonpolar molecule. Since the molecule contains three N-H bond dipoles that do not cancel out. But the three bonds are at 120 degrees with each other and the overall polarity of SO3 gets canceled out. In general, electronegativity increases from left to right across a period in the periodic table and decreases down a group. Note that noble gases are excluded from this figure because these atoms usually do not share electrons with others atoms since they have a full valence shell.
